Utah company celebrates three decades of growth from two employees and 24 spas in its first production year to approximately 590 employees and nearly 280,000 spas produced
HERRIMAN, Utah, Aug. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Bullfrog Spas® is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026, marking three decades of Utah-based innovation and growth that have taken the company from two employees and 24 spas produced in its first production year to approximately 590 employees and nearly 280,000 spas produced over the past 30 years.
Founded in Salt Lake City in 1996, Bullfrog Spas has remained rooted in Utah while continually advancing the way its hot tubs and swim spas are designed, engineered and manufactured. Today, the company operates from a 286,000-square-foot headquarters in Herriman, with products available through an extensive network of authorized dealers in the United States and international markets.
"Thirty years is an important milestone for Bullfrog Spas and a testament to the people who have helped build this company," said Dan Sjoblom, CEO of Bullfrog Spas. "Innovation has been part of our DNA from the beginning. We're proud of what started here in Utah and of the talented people who continue to design, engineer, build and support our products today."
The Bullfrog Spas story began with a problem and the belief that there had to be a better way to solve it. The company's roots stretch back to 1989, when founder David Ludlow, the son of a pool builder, was handling service calls for hot tubs sold through his father's business. After repairing numerous leaks and malfunctions, Ludlow began exploring a more reliable way to engineer a spa.
His idea for modular jetted seat backs that would contain the jets and much of a spa's plumbing eventually became the JetPak® and the foundation for Bullfrog Spas' patented JetPak Therapy System®. The technology also gave spa owners the ability to select and move JetPaks from seat to seat, creating a more personalized hydromassage experience.
In 1996, Bullfrog International was officially established in Salt Lake City and produced its first production-ready spa, a six-seat model featuring six JetPaks and two jet pumps. A year later, Bullfrog Spas received safety certification and its first six patents and introduced a full line of six spa models.
Innovation helped fuel the company's growth. By 2002, Bullfrog Spas had been recognized as the fourth-fastest-growing company in Utah, and in 2003 it moved into a new manufacturing facility in Bluffdale to increase production capacity.
Over the next two decades, Bullfrog Spas continued to expand its products, manufacturing capabilities and market presence. In 2020, the company launched its M Series™ and moved into its 286,000-square-foot Herriman headquarters, significantly expanding manufacturing capacity and creating additional space for future growth and innovation. Bullfrog Spas entered the swim spa category with Swim Series™ in 2022, expanded its European presence in 2025 and launched its Calm Series™ in 2026.
Today, Bullfrog Spas employs approximately 590 people, compared with two employees when the company began. Its Utah operations bring together employees across engineering, product development, manufacturing, operations, sales, marketing and other areas of the business. Its manufacturing operations combine technology, engineering and hands-on craftsmanship as employees assemble and test spas before they make their way to dealers and customers.
Bullfrog Spas is also marking its 30th anniversary by celebrating the employees who have helped shape the company over the past three decades. Anniversary activities will recognize longtime team members and contributions across the organization, culminating in a company-wide commemorative drone photograph bringing employees together to capture the milestone.
The focus on employees reflects a company culture built around care, commitment, trust and innovation — values Bullfrog Spas intends to carry forward into its next chapter.
"As we look toward the next 30 years, our focus remains on finding better ways to create products and experiences that improve people's lives," Sjoblom said. "That means continuing to invest in innovation, in our people and in the way we design and manufacture our products. There is a lot to be proud of in our first 30 years, and we believe the best of Bullfrog Spas is still ahead."
