From signature ceviche and lomo saltado to crowd-favorite empanadas, Tullpa has become a beloved gem in the local food scene — and is now reaching even more food lovers as a featured vendor at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market every Saturday.
Since opening its doors in 2022, Tullpa has built a loyal following by blending traditional Peruvian flavors with Midwest hospitality. The restaurant’s growth over the past three years includes expanded hours, a streamlined online ordering system, and a growing catering clientele for events and private parties.
“We opened Tullpa to bring a taste of Peru to Iowa, and the response has been incredible,” said Gloria Henriquez, Owner of Tullpa. “Now being part of the Farmers' Market lets us introduce even more people to what makes Peruvian food so unique and soulful.”
In addition to leading Tullpa, Gloria Henriquez is also the President of the Iowa Hospitality Latino Council, where she continues to support and elevate Latino-owned businesses across the state. She regularly gives back to the community by teaching ServSafe food safety classes and certification programs, helping other entrepreneurs succeed in the hospitality industry.
The Downtown Farmers' Market is a staple of Des Moines summers, drawing thousands of attendees each week. Tullpa’s inclusion marks a major milestone in the restaurant’s mission to make Peruvian cuisine more accessible and appreciated across the state.
